Plan of The World bazar takes shape

Already a half year ago the politics in Oldambt gave the green light for “The World bazar”: an indoor market à la Beverwijk, which should rise along the Rensel, on the edge of Winschoten. Soon the initiators want to apply for planning permission.

World bazar interested in marina
Monday June 9, 2014

The initiators of the World bazar make their interest known for the marina De Rensel to the municipality Oldambt. The municipality wants to privatize the harbours in Oldambt.

Earlier this year the municipality launched a so-called market consultation. Entrepreneurs and organizations were asked to come up with ideas for the harbours. According to Petra van Gaanderen, director from The World bazar O.G. BV, the marina at the Rensel could be an important junction between the yet to be build indoor market and the shopping centre of Winschoten.

Planning application
‘I can already picture it’, says Van Gaanderen on location at the Papierbaan. At the end of 2014 she hopes to begin with the construction of the World bazar, which has space for 550 stands with predominantly Oriental products.

Later this week she expects to put a signature under the contract of sale for 2 hectares’ extra land for parking. In July she expects to submit the planning application. The basic research on the land along the Rensel is almost completed.

Light goes green for Spa World
Politics little more careful about the World bazar

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

The light goes green for the entrepreneurs of Spa World. A political majority in the municipality of Oldambt is positive about the arrival of the combination of care hotel, thermal baths and swimming pool in Bad Nieuweschans.

Officially the council will make a decision on the zoning plan in late November. But a 3D presentation of the project Tuesday at the committee meeting made the councillors very enthusiastic. Labour councillor Otto Schröder called ‘Let’s do it ‘. The initiators will soon submit a planning application. Spa World will rise on the Hamdijk, right next to the exit of the A7 between Groningen and the German border.

Oriental products
There was slightly more extensive discussion about the project The World bazar in Winschoten, of the same promoters. An equivalent of the Black Market in Beverwijk, with Oriental products, just outside the shopping centre along the Rensel quay. There is room for 550 market stands. And here also a majority of the board was excited. However, the Council proposal discussed Tuesday is still uncertainty about the opening on Sundays.

Open on Sundays
The college wants to agree in the zoning plan that the World bazar is only allowed to be open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. In the same proposal however, on the opening, a separate decision must be made. Still a Reason for the Christian Union to delay. PvdA and D66 want the proposal to be adjusted before the board meeting of 27 November, so that a final decision can be made.

Penalty clause
The initiators already worked hard for eight years to get their plans realized. The past few weeks they have been quite squabbling with the city. This because of various penalty clauses and bank guarantees that were originally included in the agreement off the zoning plan. Ultimately, the agreement was amended and signed agreement significantly altered (overeenkomst flink aangepast) a few hours before the committee. The only criticism of council members was that they would like to have been informed somewhat earlier.

Explanation of market segments:
No competition: World Bazar attracts visitors from an entirely different segment:
The ‘Intensive leisure segment’.

The World bazar attracts over 14.000 visitors each weekend. This flow of visitors just reinforces the recreational shopping in Winschoten in the weekends. Which is part of the ‘Extensive leisure segment. There will be actively engagement in some Package Deals. Day part Winschoten combined with Winschoter World bazar.
